A TRIBUTE TO AN IMMORTAL SOUL
Advocate Bidhan Chandra Roy, the name becomes an institution to us as well as the Howrah Court. He was not only a Senior Advocate of Howrah Judge’s Court, but also a friend, philosopher and guide of the day-to-day life of a legal practitioner of court. We not only learned the legal practice from him, but he taught us in his every footstep how we can be a real human being. He never compromised with any power and position in his legal aspect. His style of Advocacy was unique and he never compromised with any wrong, to win his case.
Advocate Roy was a versatile personality. He had a deep knowledge both in English and Bengali literature. He was also a renowned teacher of English literature at a School of Barrackpore, where he taught lesson, before starting his practice life. He was also a good reciter both in English and Bengali poems. He also played role in T.V. Serials like Seema Rekha, Andolan, Ei Naradaha etc and theaters at Kolkata.
He visited more or less whole world and made himself fully knowledgeable about the cultures, educations and lifestyles of the countries. He started to sing Rabindra Sangeet in the last part of his life and participated in so many cultural programs by singing Rabindra Sangeet.
So many painful incidents happened in his life. Even he lost his better half in the eve of his life which hurt him very much.
He was a nice man with a soft heart to all of his followers and the poor too.
Advocate Roy was born on 01.07.1950 at a Village of District Murshidabad. Thereafter he enrolled his name as an Advocate before the Bar Council of West Bengal and started legal practice at Howrah District and Sessions Judge’s Court. Although he was an eminent criminal lawyer of Howrah Court, but he had a good number of briefs in civil matters also. My tribute to him by saying the lines of Tagore “আমার মাথা নত করে দাও হে তোমার, চরণ ধুলার তলে । ”
